Map your property (or assigned site) for earth-building potential. Test soils. Sketch a 10-year vision.
Tasks
- Soil survey: collect samples from 5 locations on your site (if possible) or nearby. Jar test (clay content), texture analysis, color, smell (indicator of organic matter). Document.
- Site map: sketch or pace out dimensions. Note: slope, existing trees/rocks, water flow (where does rain go?), sun exposure (N/S/E/W), wind patterns (direction, gusts).
- Constraints & opportunities: list property setbacks, local regulations (if any), easements, property lines. List resources: water source (well, rain, stream?), timber on site, compost or manure nearby.
- Vision statement: write 150 words (PT or EN) describing what you imagine building and why it matters to you and your community.

Site Report (1-2 pages): soil test results, sketch map with annotations, constraints/opportunities list, and vision statement. Include photos of soils and site views.
Stretch Goal
Research local building code or traditional building practices in your region. Interview an elder (if accessible) about local construction knowledge.
