Challenge 5 · Mobilização Comunitária & Plano de Trabalho / Community Mobilization & Work Plan
Recruit and coordinate volunteers. Create a realistic build schedule. Prove the project is feasible with available resources.
Tasks
- Community mapping: list 10 potential participants (neighbors, family, friends, UnB students, local groups). Note: what is their skill? What can they contribute (labor, materials, tools, meals)?
- Build team roles: assign leads for: excavation, mixing, building (walls), roof, finishes, safety. Establish a lead coordinator (likely you) and a deputy (backup plan).
- Schedule: month-by-month (8-12 month timeline realistic). Milestone dates for foundation, each wall phase, roof, finishes. Include curing time (2-3 days per layer in Brazil). Buffer for rain delays.
- Resource plan: earth volume needed (m³), straw/fiber (kg), wood (board-feet), water (liters), tools (shovels, tampers, levels, safety gear).
- Communication: draft an invitation letter (PT or EN) to potential volunteers. Explain the project, commitment required (weekends? Full-time? Drop-in?), benefits (learning, community, food/shelter), and sign-up process.
✓ Checkpoint · Entrega · Mobilização Comunitária & Plano de Trabalho / Community Mobilization & Work Plan
Community Build Plan: volunteer roster (names, skills, contributions), team roles chart, detailed build schedule (Gantt chart or month-by-month timeline), resource inventory, tool list, and a copy of your volunteer invitation. Include contingency plan if key volunteers drop out.
Stretch Goal
Coordinate a volunteer orientation meeting (real or simulated). Create a simple training session (30 min) on: soil testing, mixing, compaction, safety. Document with photos or video.
