Lock in your design. Price every material locally. Create a build plan that a coordinator (you or a trusted partner) can execute.
Tasks
- Finalize drawings: architectural set (plan, elevation, section, details at 1:50 or 1:100 scale). Fully dimensioned. Structural elements clear (columns, roof framing, foundations).
- Materials list: earth (m³), straw (kg), wood (board-feet, type, dimensions), roof material (tiles, sheets, whatever), fasteners (nails, bolts), finishing material (lime, clay, oil), labor (estimated hours).
- Cost breakdown: for each material, note: unit price (locally sourced), quantity, subtotal. Sum materials, then estimate labor cost (at regional wage, or as volunteer contribution hours × hourly rate, or 'cost of meals for volunteers'). Include 10% contingency for waste/overruns.
- Budget proposal: one page (PT or EN) showing: total project cost, funding sources (personal savings, community donations, grant, your labor contribution valued at X rate), timeline for fundraising (if needed).
- Build-phase schedule: detailed plan for each phase. Example: Phase 1 (weeks 1-4): foundation & excavation (3 weekends, $500 in labor). Phase 2 (weeks 5-12): walls ($2000 materials, 40 volunteer days). Etc.

Design Package for Construction: final drawings (architecture + structure), full materials list with costs, detailed budget (subtotaled by phase), funding plan, and phase schedule. Include contingencies and a 'go/no-go' decision point (e.g., if funding doesn't materialize by Month 2, delay to next year).
Stretch Goal
Source all materials and suppliers. Get written quotes. Negotiate bulk discounts if possible. Create a materials delivery schedule (so supplies arrive when needed, not months early). Establish relationships with suppliers before build begins.
