Challenge 8 · Defesa Técnica & Apresentação Comunitária / Technical Defense & Community Presentation

Present your completed design and build plan to two audiences: engineers/architects (technical defense) and your community (pitching participation). Integrate 8 weeks of learning.

Tasks

• Technical presentation: slides covering (1) site analysis & soil testing, (2) design logic & load calculations, (3) materials specification & test data, (4) structural integrity proof, (5) climate/durability strategy, (6) prototype results (if applicable), (7) detailed build plan, (8) risk mitigation. Audience: engineers, architects, course instructor. Time: 20-30 min + Q&A. Handout: summary document (2-3 pages).
• Community presentation: slides (fewer, visuals prominent) covering (1) what will be built & why, (2) benefits to community & environment, (3) how to participate (labor, materials, skills needed), (4) timeline, (5) call to action (volunteer sign-up). Audience: neighbors, family, local organizations. Time: 15-20 min. Handout: one-page project summary + volunteer form.
• Capstone review exercise: answer 10 review questions (provided in Week 8 lab) in writing or verbally. Demonstrate integrated understanding of GTCT, materials, structure, sustainability, and community.
• Reflection essay: 500 words (PT or EN) on what you learned, how your thinking changed, and how you will apply this knowledge post-course.
• Next steps plan: 30-day action plan. What is your first concrete move? Who is your first phone call? When will groundbreaking happen? Commit to a date.

Stretch Goal

Lead your community presentation to live audience (real volunteers recruited). Record and submit video. Gather feedback on design clarity and community enthusiasm (survey, informal interviews). Iterate based on feedback before build begins.
