How to read this book — and what you will publish at the end.

This is your onboarding. The book is 41 chapters across 3 passes, and you read them in a different order each time. By the end of pass 3 you will have prompted Claude to deliver something publishable, with your name on it. This page explains the operator chain, the three passes, the game that decides your reading order, and exactly how to use Claude in Chrome to do the work. Read once. Then begin.

The book is a system you fold yourself into.

The Mini-Beast is not a textbook you finish. It is an operator you apply to your own thinking, in three passes, until the operator and the thinker converge. The mathematics of that convergence — G(x*) = x* — is exactly the mathematics the book teaches.

You are not asked to memorize. You are asked to iterate. Each pass through the chapters re-reads the previous pass with more compression. You will read every chapter at least once and most chapters three times, in different orders, with different prompts, with different goals.

By the end of pass 3, the goal is one publishable artifact with your name on it. This is not aspirational. The 14-week program in Part III is engineered for it.

Find the densest possible statement. The seed of an argument, the baseline of a circadian rhythm, the resting state of any system.

The moment a system commits — fires or doesn't, breaks or holds. Same κ* in every domain.
F — FOLD
Build the structure
The mechanism that crosses the threshold. Methods, proofs, the gene cascade, the reconnection event.
U — UNFOLDING
Express the result
The visible output. Results, the canopy, the waking state, the published paper, the answer.
G — GENERATION / CONCLUSION
Reach the fixed point x*
The whole chain G = U ∘ F ∘ K ∘ C, applied until G(x*) = x*. Conclusion as convergence, not terminus.

Each pass uses a different sequence to decide which chapter you read next. Same 41 chapters, three reading orders, three different lessons.

Pass 1 · Linear

Read the book the boring way once.

Chapters 1 → 41 in operator-phase order. You scaffold the language and meet every concept once. No game, no skipping. Goal: comprehension.

Pass 2 · Collatz

Pick a starting chapter. Follow the orbit.

Even chapter → next is N/2 (compression). Odd chapter → next is 3N+1 (threshold cross). Every orbit converges to chapter 1 — that's your fixed point. The path looks chaotic. It isn't. Goal: connection.

Pass 3 · n-Bonacci

Each chapter is built on what came before.

Pick n: 2 (Fibonacci), 3 (Tribonacci), 4 (Tetranacci). The next chapter is the sum of the previous n. You literally read your own argument as it compounds. Goal: synthesis — by the end you publish something.

Collatz reading orbits — a worked example

Pick chapter 7. Watch where Collatz takes you.

The Collatz rule — even → N/2, odd → 3N+1 — is one of the most famous open problems in mathematics. Nobody has proved that every starting integer reaches 1, but for every integer ever tested, it does. You are about to use that conjecture as your reading order.

Starting at chapter 7, the orbit visits these chapters in sequence:

7 → 22 → 11 → 34 → 17 → 52 → 2613 → 40 → 20105 → 16 → 8421

17 chapters visited. The orbit reaches chapter 1 — the seed, the fixed point x*. You have just experienced fixed-point convergence as the order in which you read.

Some chapter numbers exceed 41 mid-orbit (52, here). That is intentional. Those chapters are "future-pass territory" — they appear in your spiral as glowing beyond the edge, signaling material you have outgrown. You can skip or note them and continue.

In Pass 2 the journey map asks you to pick your starting chapter. Your orbit length, max altitude, and time-to-converge are recorded. You can replay any seed; your personal best stays.

How to use Claude in Chrome to do the exercises

Every chapter has a copy-prompt block at the bottom. The prompt is the exercise. Claude is the lab. You are the author.

  1. Install Claude in Chrome. Go to the Chrome Web Store and add the Claude extension. Sign in with your Anthropic account.
  2. Open any chapter in this book in your Chrome browser. The Claude side panel will be available from the extension icon.
  3. Find the copy-prompt block near the end of the chapter. It looks like a yellow card with a "Copy this prompt" button.
  4. Click the button. The full prompt is copied to your clipboard, formatted for Claude.
  5. Open Claude in the Chrome side panel and paste the prompt. Hit enter. Claude reads the page you are on and produces the artifact the prompt asks for — a paragraph, a derivation, a translation, a draft.
  6. Log the output in your research-log.md file under the chapter heading. Mark the chapter "complete" on the journey map.
  7. By Pass 3, your log will contain 41+ Claude-assisted artifacts. The exit ticket of every chapter feeds the next. You are not just reading. You are writing the second edition.

If you don't have Chrome, you can also paste the prompt into the Claude desktop app or claude.ai — it works the same. The Chrome extension is recommended because it can see the chapter you're on and the prompts are written assuming that context.
