This page is a single place for anyone weighing my candidacy to review the record: what I have built, published, and can bring to New Jersey’s innovation economy — with the primary sources linked so the determination rests on evidence, not a pitch.

The ask. Consideration for an appointed position at the New Jersey Innovation Authority. I am a Newark-based founder and independent researcher working at the intersection of climate resilience, environmental monitoring, advanced manufacturing, formal-verification (“trust”) technology, and STEM workforce development — the areas NJIA exists to grow, seen from the ground in New Jersey’s largest city. I bring the technical range, the local roots, and the follow-through to help build the agency’s work, not just advise it.

01Why this matters right now: New Jersey’s air

Through the summer of 2026, smoke from more than 800 Canadian wildfires has repeatedly pushed New Jersey into unhealthy air. The state issued Code Red air-quality alerts, and the New Jersey Department of Health cautioned residents to stay indoors. This is not a distant problem — it is Newark’s sky.

Wildfire smoke streaming east across the continent, captured by MODIS on NASA’s Terra satellite, August 2, 2026. NASA Earth Observatory image by Lauren Dauphin, using MODIS data from NASA EOSDIS LANCE and GIBS/Worldview. The same transcontinental transport mechanism — smoke riding the jet east for thousands of kilometers — is what carries western and Canadian fire plumes into New Jersey’s air days later. Modeling that transport is the subject of my 2026 smoke paper (below).

I raise this first because it is exactly the kind of issue where independent, technically grounded, locally rooted voices are useful to the state: connecting satellite-scale science to the health of a specific city, and to the infrastructure and monitoring decisions that follow.

02What I would bring to the board

Climate resilience & distributed energy

Helical Vortex Energy Harvesting (HVEH)

A proposed approach to distributed, low-head hydrokinetic generation and flood-resilience for New Jersey watercourses (e.g., the Second River / Belleville corridor) — year-round baseload from existing flow, sited where municipal power and stormwater resilience overlap. Presented as an engineering concept and development case, not a deployed system. Background →

Environmental science & air quality

Transcontinental smoke transport

Published modeling of how wildfire smoke crosses the continent and degrades downwind air — the mechanism behind New Jersey’s recurring Code Red days. A reproducible data pipeline (PM2.5 vs. mixed-layer depth) accompanies the paper. Read →

Advanced manufacturing

Sustainable aviation fuel (ethanol → hydrocarbons)

An early-stage SAF process concept, with analytical validation (DRIFTS) planned at NJIT’s Otto York Center. Actively pursuing New Jersey’s CSIT R&D Voucher to fund the work at an in-state core facility — a concrete example of using New Jersey’s own innovation infrastructure. Funding avenue; not yet secured.

Trust & verification technology

Machine-checked proof (Lean 4 / AXLE)

I maintain AXLE, a formal-verification environment where mathematical claims are checked by a proof kernel rather than asserted. The discipline — nothing is “verified” without a clean kernel check — is the same rigor emerging AI and critical-software sectors increasingly need. Repository →

STEM education & workforce

Bringing the science to classrooms

Open, browser-based teaching tools (e.g., interactive Chladni nodal-set plates for math teachers) and a full dm³ course series — built to put working scientific instruments in front of students and educators for free. Example tool →

Financial inclusion · reaching the margin

Serving residents without WiFi, a smartphone, or a bank

A concept for instant payments on public rails (FedNow) that reach the unbanked and the cash economy on any phone — with community cash access and microcredit, off the card-network toll. A worked answer to the question every digital-service builder should face: how do you not leave the margin behind? Ponte Nova →
