Reader as Operator, Text as Argument

For most of a book the reader is the operand. The text acts; the reader is acted upon. Somewhere in Pass 3 that inverts — the reader starts running the sequence on material the book does not contain, and the text becomes an argument to be evaluated rather than a source to be absorbed.

The inversion is checkable and it has a specific signature: you begin to notice what the book has not proved. If you have read this far and cannot name three claims in Book 3 that are promised rather than demonstrated, the inversion has not happened yet. Chapter 20 alone supplies one — the contact morphisms are asserted, not exhibited.

Convergence Across PassesWhat the Argument Does and Does Not Give

Because G is a contraction, iteration converges to a fixed point x*, and because each reader starts from a different x₀, that fixed point is individual. Two students who defend the same three seed sentences will defend them differently, and this is predicted rather than tolerated.

What the argument does not give is a rate. Contraction guarantees arrival, not arrival by week 14, and the framework should not be read as promising otherwise. The toy system is instructive here: the guaranteed basin is not symmetric around the cycle, and the symmetric estimate does not merely lose sharpness — it misclassifies. Some starting points converge that the safe estimate excludes; the estimate is conservative in a direction that is not uniform. Applied to readers, that is an argument against writing anyone off by their distance from the target.

Where Pass 4 Begins

Extend a roomTake one of the four domains and produce the measurement its falsifiability section asks for. The plasma room has public data and instrumentation finer than the predicted band; it will resolve fastest.
Audit a claimPick a cell of the Coherence Bridge table and demand its derivation, dataset and code. Publishing a cell that fails is a contribution and is treated as one here.
Close an open itemThe basin boundary is numerical, not proved. The contact morphisms are not exhibited. The calibration from dimensionless invariants to fitted domain parameters has been attempted once and did not clear. Any of the three is a real problem.
Open a fifth roomFind a generative transition in a domain not covered here, build its manifold and metric, check the rank-one condition, fit three numbers. If it fails, that is the more interesting outcome.

Pass 4 is not in this book. That is the design: a living document expands where its readers push on it, and the four routes above are the places it is thinnest.
