Your Media Kit

From Content to Partnership — A One-Page Professional Introduction

A reel gets you seen. A media kit gets you taken seriously. This lesson builds the one document every creator needs before applying to an affiliate program — written, designed, and filed correctly.

Lesson 05b · Level B1–B2 · 120 minutes · Delivered WPPPW

Your Media Kit
Bio · Stats · PDF · Affiliate Checklist

Tools: Gemini (bio drafting) · Canva (PDF design) · A shop's affiliate program (e.g. Shopee, or a general network like impact.com)
Media kit (n.): A one-page professional document a creator sends to a brand or affiliate program — usually a short bio, audience numbers, past work, and contact information. It is the resume of the creator economy: not the content itself, but the proof that the content is worth partnering with.

Resume vs. Media Kit

In pairs, compare: what goes on a job resume, and what do you think goes on a creator's media kit? Write two lists on the board — overlap where they're similar.

  1. Both usually have: a short bio, contact information, evidence of past work.
  2. A media kit usually adds: follower/subscriber numbers, audience details (age, country, interests), and sample content links.
  3. Question for discussion: why would a brand or affiliate program ask for numbers a resume never asks for?
P — PRESENTATION · 20 minutes
The Five Parts of a One-Page Media Kit
SectionWhat Goes In It
1. Bio2–4 sentences, third person, who you are and what you create
2. StatsFollower/subscriber count, average views, posting frequency
3. AudienceRough age range, top countries, main interests (from app insights)
4. Sample Work2–3 links to your best posts (your Lesson 05 reel can be one)
5. ContactEmail, and the exact platform handle for each app you use

Using Gemini for the bio: Give Gemini your raw facts in first person ("I make cooking videos, I have 400 followers, I post 3 times a week") and ask: "Turn this into a 3-sentence third-person creator bio for a media kit." Read the result critically — keep what sounds like you, change what doesn't.

P — PRACTICE · 35 minutes
Guided Practice — Draft Each Section
#Step
1Write your 5 raw facts (one per section above) in your own words, first person, no editing yet.
2Feed your bio facts to Gemini with the prompt from Presentation. Compare 2 versions it gives you — pick the one that sounds most like you.
3Fill in Stats honestly. If your numbers are still small, that's normal — write them exactly, don't round up.
4For Audience, check your app's insights/analytics screen if you have one; if not, write your best honest estimate and label it as an estimate.
5Choose your Sample Work links — include the reel script or plan from Lesson 05.

Comprehension check: Why is it better to write "estimate" next to a guessed number than to present a guess as a fact? (Because affiliate programs and brands check numbers — being caught exaggerating damages trust more than a small, honest number ever would.)

P — PRODUCTION · 40 minutes
Students Produce: Canva PDF + Affiliate Checklist
Card A — Build the PDF in Canva

Open Canva, search "Media Kit" templates, choose one, and place your five sections into it. Keep it to one page. Export as PDF.

Card B — Name the File Correctly

Save it as FirstnameLastname_MediaKit_2026.pdf (no spaces, exact capitalization). Affiliate portals often reject files with generic names like "document1.pdf" or ones with spaces.

Affiliate submission checklist: Whether you're applying through a specific shop's own program (like Shopee's affiliate program) or a general network (like impact.com, which connects creators to many brands), most applications ask for the same things. Check each box as you prepare it:

  1. Correctly-named PDF media kit attached
  2. Platform handle(s) spelled exactly as they appear in your bio, with links
  3. A short "why I want to partner with you" note (2–3 sentences, use Gemini to check grammar, not to write it for you)
  4. Contact email checked for typos
  5. Payment/payout details ready, but never entered into a form during class — that step happens at home, privately
W — WRAP-UP · 15 minutes
Self-Study Quiz + Submission Reminder

Works in class or alone. Answers below — cover them and check yourself after.

Wrap-Up Quiz — 5 Questions

1. Which of these belongs on a media kit but not usually on a job resume?
  • (a) Contact email
  • (b) Audience age range
  • (c) Your name
2. True or False: It's fine to round your follower count up if it's close to a "nicer" number.
3. What's wrong with the filename document1.pdf for a media kit submission?
4. What voice should the bio section use — first person ("I") or third person ("she/he/they")?
5. True or False: Payment or payout details should be entered into any form during class time.
Answers: 1—(b) audience age range · 2—False, exact honest numbers build trust · 3—It's generic and unclear, and many affiliate portals reject non-descriptive filenames · 4—Third person · 5—False, that's always done at home, privately.

Where this goes next: Your media kit now travels with you to any brand or affiliate application, not just one platform. Update the Stats section every few months as your numbers grow.

Teacher Notes — This lesson deliberately never has students enter payment or payout information into any live form during class — that step is flagged explicitly in Production and the quiz as something to complete privately, at home. Keep this boundary in class practice too.

On affiliate specifics: Shopee runs its own affiliate program (Shopee Affiliate Program / AMS); impact.com is a separate, general-purpose network some brands use. Exact application steps vary by platform and change over time — treat the checklist in this lesson as a template of what's commonly asked for, and verify current steps on the specific program's site before applying.

Self-study use: A student without class time can complete Warm-Up through Production alone in roughly two sittings, then self-check with the Wrap-Up quiz before submitting anywhere.
